2016 Film Festival - Capacity to Suffer

Date: 15th Jun 16
Location: Filmhouse, 88 Lothian Road, Edinburgh EH3 9BZ [ Map ]

What kind of society would exist if persons with disabilities were ‘released’ (given death by lethal injection) and suffering no longer existed? Would it be a utopian or dystopian future? What are the ethical consequences of such a eugenic society?

These are some of the questions that will be considered and discussed after the screening of the film THE GIVER which is based on the best-selling novel of the same name. This film event is being organised in order to present the annual Edinburgh International Biomedical Ethics Film Festivals. At the end of the screening, an ethical discussion will take place between the audience and a panel of invited experts in bioethics, science, law, medicine and politics.

Tickets are available at the Filmhouse Cinema (www.filmhousecinema.com) or, with a 20% discount, at the Scottish Council on Human Bioethics exhibition stand at the International Association of Bioethics Congress.
